This web site of the Soulsby Family Tree of Australia was created by Rodney Soulsby a fourth generation of the original Soulsby's who came to Australia. I began my research in 1980 and since then several other Soulsby family members have come on board and extended the research. Although I am unable to claim full credit for the contents contained herein, having extracted the Forward from the Soulsby Family Tree 1986.

I was born and educated in Charlton in Victoria and upon leaving school worked as an apprentice Motor Mechanic. I left Charlton in the early 1970's to go to Melbourne for work. In April 1974 I moved to Perth, Western Australia, with my girl friend Lesla and her two children. We arrived in Perth with very few possessions and $5:00 in our pockets.

We married on the 24th August 1974, and shortly after as an employee of the Western Australian Government Railways, to gain a promotion to Fireman, we moved to Northam. After working there a number of years we returned to the suburb of Lesmurdie in Perth.

In 1989 I resigned from the Government Railways to go "Up North" to work for Goldsworthy Mining until being forced to return to Perth as a result of a take over by the mighty BHP.

In 1990 I rejoined the Government Railways as Locomotive Inspector when in 1994 I commenced my Bachelor Degree in (Training and Development) at Edith Cowan University, on completion of these studies I was was posted as Train Management Officer Forrestfield.

In 2007 I joined Skilled Rail Services as their Operations Trainer where I am now putting into practice all that was learned during my years at Uni and my extensive on track knowledge and training back ground. This has been the best career move I could have made.

FORWARD......

I have enjoyed the experience of tracing our families related to George and Jane Soulsby. It came as a surprise to me just how many of us there were.
My thanks must be extended to my husband Martin and children Gareth and Brett who have had to cope with paperwork everywhere, a few delayed meals, and constant chatter about family.

My parents Albert and Florrie Soulsby have been an enormous help with out them a lot of this information would not have been available or it would have been a great deal harder to locate.

To Kate Smith thank you for all the letters she has written in my requests for information, it has been greatly appreciated.

Ron Soulsby who had the large job of reading my writing and typing all the information and being a good back stop. Thank you Ron.

Rodney Soulsby in Western Australia thank you for all the information you have supplied.
Finally to the all the families who have responded to my circular in 1986, with out your help this Tree would not be as up to date as it is.

I hope you enjoy reading our combined research effort.

Mary-Anne Duke (nee Soulsby).

It is hoped that your research on this web site will ensure that the information contained is continually up dated and corrected.

George Soulsby came to Australia from the village of Hetton-Le-Hole, in County Durham, England. His father was a stonemason in this village which is part of the coal mining area of Northern England.

Jane Moroney came from Cone, in County Clare, Ireland, with her parents and at least one sister with whom we have maintained contact.

Both George and Jane were living at Jones Creek - Loddon at the time of their marriage. Jones Creek is a creek that runs through the township of Waanyarra It is located halfway between Dunolly and Tarnagulla in Central Victoria.

Waanyarra today is mainly State forest and farming property, but at one time a thriving township. George and Jane owned a one acre block in the township near the Recreation Reserve, the title was dated 6th June 1864. Six of their seven children were born in this area and Alice their seventh child was born in Stuart Mill.
